EFX Adds Gravitas with Disc Golf Championship Awards
In the beautiful Welsh countryside, the very best of Disc Golf players gathered for the 2024 British Disc Golf Association (BDGA) National Championships at the Silver Birch Disc Golf Club. Four time Disc Golf British Champion Rachel Turton, currently ranked top 25 in the world, braved the wet Welsh weather that July (!!) weekend and took another win in the female professional division.
The event was the first in a new iteration of the British National Championship, so this meant establishing a new prestige and, of course, new perpetual trophies designed to be updated, engraved and returned every year. Without a design in mind initially, but with a back story of the event and their branding, the EFX design team set to work to create something “that looks both professional but still screams “Disc Golf”- and the modern, somewhat quirky sport that they represent and enjoy.”
The main thing the client wanted was for them to be “perpetual” trophies – engravable for multiple years and reusable both to help with their “green” footprint and to avoid extra recurring costs. “The goals were achieved smartly with an excellent detachable magnetic solution.” Which is a great way for EFX to be able to engrave your winner’s names in events like annual tournaments, where new winners are crowned each year.
There were 6 categories in the tournament; ,The Derek Robins Mixed Professional (MPO) National Champion, The Sue Underwood Female Professional (FPO) National Champion (Named after British Frisbee legends), Mixed Masters (MP40), Female Masters (FP40), Mixed Amateurs (MA), Female Amateurs (FA). Each winner was ecstatic with their award. Their tournament director Harry said, “We were absolutely blown away by the quality of the trophies. The sheer weight of them was amazing, the materials higher quality than expected and eventual MPO winner Noah Smithson said (paraphrasing from his post-round interview with me) that the trophies really helped add gravitas to the event.
The finished trophies also met with international acclaim online. Winners photos were shared on various social media platforms and helped put the British Nationals on the scene as an event with professional quality trophies. I think they already achieved their aim!” At EFX we believe that and pride ourselves on the fact that a luxury trophy adds to the winners feeling, determination and drive to win one at the end! Elevating the sports events for years to come.
Modern & Quirky
The coveted awards were made from polished nickel plated aluminium & gloss black acrylic layering. The clear acrylic backing gives the disc shape some dimension and movement, like in the real tournament. The base has removable magnetic stainless steel plates for each year’s winning names to be engraved.
The client had this to say about working with EFX: “Working with EFX was incredibly easy. Honestly, working in a niche sport such as Disc Golf which is usually volunteer based, it was an absolute privilege to get to work with an organisation so professional – far beyond what we are used to! Jack was easy to work with, fundamentally super helpful with the design process and helping us realise our dream in a price bracket that was achievable with our budgets.”
