A Spectrum Of Colour And Sustainability For Eco Awards
The British Ecological Society (BES) is the first Society in the world committed to understanding the Earth through ecology, and the science of studying the relationship between living things and their environment.
Over a century ago, The BES recognised excellence in ecology through their awards that began in 1913, when it named one of the founding members as the first Honorary Member. Fast forward to 2024, they now have 16 award categories, ranging from celebration of exceptional research, early career promise, commitment to diversity and inclusion, and long-term contribution to the science of ecology. The BES Awards celebrate distinguished ecologists and groups whose work benefits the scientific community and wider society. We have been working with the BES on their awards since 2012. In 2024 they made the move from acrylic to wood for their striking awards, to support their rebrand and celebrate their sustainability as an ever growing society.
Their sustainability mission really spoke to us at EFX as reducing environmental impact is a really important part of how EFX works. From the materials we use to how we power machines, we always consider our effect on our environment. Where we can, we try to use sustainable or recycled materials for our awards and in our packaging too.
Xanthe their Finance and Sustainability Officer said ” Award winners and other delegates commented on how much they liked the award design, and how well they aligned with the BES brand and values.” The BES presented their awards at a ceremony during their Annual Meeting in Liverpool last December. The Annual Meeting sees 1500 delegates gather to celebrate the science and wonder of ecology, and the awards ceremony is an opportunity to celebrate the members and their contribution to ecology.
A Rainbow Of Possibilities
The E shaped awards are made from FSC sourced Beech with European origin. Beech has a much faster growing rate in Europe, making it more sustainable. The finish of the Beech has a beautiful look and takes print and laser engraving really well, these particular designs were digitally printed in a variety of vibrant colours. In a mix of smaller and larger sizes, the line-up makes a very aesthetically pleasing rainbow.
The client had this to say on working with EFX and their finished design. – “EFX has been a trusted supplier to the BES for many years, so it was a pleasure to work with them on this fresh project. The team at EFX were informed, enthusiastic, and engaged, which made the design process really smooth – and fun! We’re thrilled with the final product, and our winners are too.”
